Publication charges
Until February 29, 2024, we do not charge any publication fees and there are no article submission charges.
The journal Dental and Medical Problems introduces the article processing charge (APC) for the manuscripts submitted via the Editorial System as from March 1, 2024.
As of March 1, 2024, the APC is set at:
1600 EUR / 6900 PLN for all types of articles.
The publication fee is charged to the Authors of the articles accepted for publication.
Once APC has been paid, Authors are not entitled to a refund, and are not allowed to suspend or withdraw the article from the journal.
There are also additional fees for the following optional services (if ordered by the Authors of the manuscript accepted for publication):
- 200 EUR / 880 PLN for linguistic editing;
- 200 EUR / 880 PLN for technical editing.
Services offered
Linguistic editing ensures that the English language of your manuscript is of the academic standard required for publication in our journal. It comprises correcting grammar, punctuation and spelling errors, pointing to inconsistencies, as well as removing or reformulating awkward or ambiguous sentences, while keeping, where possible, your voice and choice of words. We also suggest discipline-specific terms. In the proof sent to you, all our comments and doubts are clearly marked, so that you could make the necessary corrections.
Technical editing ensures that the structure of your manuscript follows the DMP house style. We reformat references (both in the text and the whole reference list) and look for missing information in the reference section. We improve the overall presentation by revising titles/subtitles, font, spacing, text alignment, and paragraph structure. We also edit equations and tables, and produce publication-ready figures that clearly communicate your research to readers. Figure editing enhances your charts and graphs, as well as graphical abstracts; it comprises revising the text included, colors, shading, border, size, resolution, and file type.
You can choose either or both of the abovementioned optional services, or decline them. When submitting the manuscript to DMP via the Editorial System, you will be provided with special checkboxes to select if needed. Following the acceptance of your article for publication, you will be asked to pay the basic APC and the additional fees for the chosen editing services.
Please be informed that the articles finally published in Dental and Medical Problems must comply with the high standards of the journal.
APC waivers
The fee is waived in the case of invited submissions.
The employees and students of Wroclaw Medical University (WMU) are exempt from paying the fee. If the manuscript has been written jointly by the employees/students of WMU and Authors from other institutions, the latter pay an adequately reduced APC (the percentage proportion of the whole payment, e.g., if one out of 4 Authors is from WMU, the rest pay 75% of the initial amount).
Apart from the above-mentioned cases, the journal offers neither APC waivers nor discounts, including discounts for lower-income countries and countries against which international sanctions have been imposed.
In exceptional cases, upon the Authors' request submitted to the WMU Publishing House, Vice-Rector for University Development Strategy or Editor-in-Chief may decide on the exemption from payment.
Special incentive for DMP Reviewers
Starting from July 1, 2024, the following system of APC discounts for Reviewers is introduced:
– 4 reviews – 25% APC discount;
– 8 reviews – 50% APC discount;
– 12 reviews – 75% APC discount;
– 16 reviews – 100% APC discount (awarding the Reviewer a full APC waiver).
The APC discounts concern publications in Dental and Medical Problems. The reviews need to be provided within 2 years. When the Reviewer prepares 4 reviews, they receive a 25% APC discount, and from that moment, the 2-year period is counted. Within that period, the discount is increased proportionally to the reviews submitted. After 2 years, the Reviewer's account is reset, regardless of the number of prepared reviews, and the whole procedure starts again.
Reviewers' accounts are monitored in this respect by our Editors. However, if a Reviewer/Author knows or supposes that they are eligible for an APC waiver, they should contact the editorial office (dental@umw.edu.pl).
Payment details
Authors should pay the fee within 14 days from receiving the information via the Editorial System about the acceptance of the article for publication. If we do not receive the payment within 21 days after the acceptance of the article for publication, the manuscript will be removed from the list qualified for publication until the payment is made.
